Your dating profile is often the first introduction someone has to you. Before they hear your voice, meet you at a meeting, or have a conversation with you, your profile gives them a small glimpse into who you are.
That can make writing a profile feel surprisingly difficult.
You may find yourself wondering: What should I say? How much should I share? How do I make myself interesting without sounding like I’m trying too hard?
The answer is simple: write a profile that sounds like you.
Your profile doesn’t need to sound perfect. It needs to sound genuine.
Start With Who You Actually Are
A good profile isn’t a list of qualities you think someone wants to see.
Instead of writing:
I am kind, loving, hardworking, loyal, caring, honest, respectful, and family-oriented.
Try showing those qualities through a little more personality.
For example:
I’m happiest when I’m having a good conversation, laughing over something silly, or spending a quiet evening with people I care about.
The second version gives someone something to connect with. It sounds like a person rather than a résumé.
- Think about the things that genuinely make you you.
- What do you enjoy doing on a free day?
- What makes you laugh?
- Are you outgoing or more reserved?
Do you enjoy travelling, cooking, reading, music, nature, volunteering, or simply relaxing at home?
What kind of conversations do you enjoy?
These small details can make your profile memorable.
Let Your Personality Come Through

Don’t be afraid to have a personality.
If you’re naturally funny, let your humor show.
If you’re calm and reserved, you don’t need to pretend to be extremely outgoing.
If you’re adventurous, mention the things you enjoy exploring.
If you’re a homebody, say so.
There is nothing wrong with writing:
I’m the kind of person who enjoys a quiet evening at home just as much as going out.
That tells someone something useful about you.
The goal isn’t to appeal to everyone. It’s to give the right people a reason to start a conversation.
Talk About Your Faith Naturally
As Jehovah’s Witnesses, our relationship with Jehovah is an important part of who we are. Your profile can reflect that without becoming a list of spiritual qualifications.
Instead of simply saying:
I love Jehovah and attend all meetings.
You could say:
My relationship with Jehovah is important to me, and I appreciate having a routine that includes meetings, personal study, and ministry. I’m hoping to meet someone who also wants to keep growing spiritually.
This gives someone a better understanding of what your faith looks like in your everyday life.
Be honest about where you are spiritually. You don’t need to present yourself as someone who has everything figured out.
Mention What You Enjoy
Imagine that someone reads your profile and wants to send you a message.
Give them something to talk about.
For example:
I’m always looking for a good movie recommendation.
or:
I love trying new restaurants, discovering beautiful places, and having long conversations about almost anything.
Or:
One thing I’m trying to learn this year is how to cook a few dishes really well.
These details create natural conversation starters.
Instead of someone wondering, “What do I say to this person?”, you’ve already given them an opening.
Be Honest About What You’re Looking For

Your profile should also communicate what you’re hoping to find.
Are you looking for someone to get to know with the possibility of marriage?
- Are you interested in taking things slowly?
- Do you value good communication?
- Is spiritual compatibility important to you?
You can communicate these things without creating a long list of requirements.
For example:
I’m hoping to meet someone who values their relationship with Jehovah, communicates openly, treats people with kindness, and is interested in building something meaningful.
That’s very different from a long list of demands.
Remember: a profile should introduce you, not interrogate the person reading it.
Your Photos Matter Too
Your words aren’t the only part of your profile.
Choose photos that represent you as you are.
A clear, recent photo where your face can be seen is a good starting point. You can also include photos that show some of your personality perhaps a hobby, an activity you enjoy, or a place you’ve visited.
You don’t need a professional photoshoot.
You simply want someone who sees your profile to have a genuine sense of who they’re getting to know.
Don’t Pretend to Be Someone You’re Not
This may be the most important part.
Don’t make yourself seem more spiritual, more adventurous, more social, wealthier, more sophisticated, or more confident than you actually are because you think it will attract more people.
Eventually, the person will get to know the real you.
It’s much better for someone to become interested in who you actually are.
Your profile isn’t supposed to convince everyone to like you.
It’s supposed to help someone who may genuinely appreciate your personality, values, faith, and interests recognize that they might enjoy getting to know you.
